It is well known that we love our local Brancaster oysters washed down with champagne, so much so we could feast on them all the days of summer. But for just 3 days you can enjoy them along with some very fancy English wines and accompanied live music down by the sea at the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe.
The Oysterfest runs at Brancaster Staithe in the latter part of August. The setting could not be better, right at the edge of the marshes just yards from the oyster beds. Watch the highest tide of the season creep in over the tidal marsh whilst enjoying Richard Loose’s Brancaster Staithe oysters served 6 ways – shallot vinegar, tempura & sweet chilli, mint, cucumber & strawberry, Bloody Mary, Tom Yum, nettle & mirin. Plus other foody delights such as samphire and cockles and smoked shell on prawns. Live music with jazz, soul, modern day and everything in between.
The pub has sold 1,300 shellfish a day at previous festivals.
This will be the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe eighth North Norfolk’s Oyster festival and 2022 was the first time it stretched over a whole weekend. The pub has firepits and three pop-up marquees in case of bad weather and oyster-related goodies including artwork and decorated shells will go on sale.
In 2023 there is a sister event Mussel Fest in October. This includes Mussels 5 ways and live bands in a heated marquee. More info here
