- 6:00 pmBrancaster down by the sea at The White HorseFri23Aug2019
It is well known that we love our local Brancaster oysters washed down with champagne, so much so we could feast on them all the days of summer.
However, it is nice to pick one extra special evening to truly savour and celebrate our local oysters. That is exactly what we will be doing the evening of Friday 23rd August at the annual Champagne and Oyster Festival. The setting could not be better, right at the edge of the marshes just yards from the oyster beds. Watch the highest tide of the season creep in over the tidal marsh whilst enjoying Richard Loose's Brancaster Staithe oysters served 6 ways - shallot vinegar, tempura & sweet chili, mint, cucumber & strawberry, Bloody Mary, Tom Yum, nettle & mirin. Plus other foody delights such as samphire and cockles and smoked shell on prawns. Live music and firepits in abundance. Bring a rug and join locals and visitors alike in a great celebration .

The pink-footed goose is perhaps the defining bird species of north-west Norfolk in winter and also the most unique sights to witness. Well worth creeping out at dawn to our local beach at Snettisham to marvel at this spectacle. It is not unusual for nearly half of the world's population of pink-footed geese to spend the winter in Norfolk -- over 100,000 birds in some years -- and it is quite possible to view feeding flocks of 10,000 or more. By early spring they have gone, leaving coastal fields and marshes quiet once more.
